Two Suspects arrested in connection to smash and grabs and unauthorized use of a vehicle – Nash County


Since the beginning of last week stores in the city of Rocky Mount and in Nash County have been broken in with the same motive in mind, to steal cigarettes.

Stores in Rocky Mount on Church St., W Thomas St, US 64 ALt and Jeffreys Rd were damaged when a brick was thrown through the door and the suspect made entry stealing cigarettes. In Nash County the Smiths Red & White was broken in two times, again with a brick,  with the same motive.

RMPD has provided a list of the break ins

This past Friday, 02/22/2019, Michael Jones and William Spellman were charged with the rash of commercial break-ins involving cigarette thefts.  In a span of 4 days, they did 7.  5 in Rocky Mount and 2 in Nash County.  Cases here are listed below.

2019-001034 / 02-19-2019 / Express Food Mart – 650 Jeffreys Road

2019-001060 / 02-20-2019 / E.P. Mart – 2420 North Church Street

2019-001063 / 02-20-2019 / Citgo – 1001 North Church Street

2019-001096 / 02-20-2019 / Piggly Wiggly – 418 West Thomas Street

2019-001097 / 02-21-2019 / Fuel Doc – 14443 U.S. 64 Alt. West Hwy.

2019-00335 & 2019-00338 are the cases for N.C.S.O.  This is Smith’s Red & White getting hit back to back nights (02/21-02/22).  Mr. Jones was involved with both & Mr. Spellman one.

Other: $40,000 secured bond and confined in Edgecombe County Jail

WILLIAM DONNELL SPELLMAN 33, who just got out of prison on January 7th 2019 after serving 9 months for previous break ins was arrested by Nash County Sheriffs Office at the Starlight motel in Sharpsburg on Friday night. SPELLMAN was on Parole.  SPELLMAN also took his fathers 2003 Ford Taurus on Monday and used it in the crime spree. The car has been since returned to the father who took out unauthorized use warrants earlier this week.

SPELLMAN is charged with 5 Felony Breaking and Entering Cases, 5 Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering and 1 charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and probation violation as he was on Parole.

He has his first appearance in the Nash County Court on the 26th of February for four break ins and his first appearance on the 27th of February in the Edgecombe County Court for one break in and a court date set for March 18th for the unauthorized use charge.
