Woman charged and arrested on Identity Theft Charges

On Saturday April 14, 2018 at approximately 8:45pm Roanoke Rapids Police Department’s Lt. P. Parks conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of Jackson Street, during the stop a passenger Leanne Elizabeth Hayes 33 of Roanoke Rapids was arrested on outstanding a warrant and order for arrest.

Ms. Hayes was charged with identity theft and served the order for arrest; she was given a $30,000 bond and a May 2, 2018 court date.

The charge stems from an investigation by Officer H. Grimes, in November 0f 2017 a residence was broken into and items taken.  During the investigation it was discovered that a bank card had been used several times that was stolen from the residence.

Officer Grimes obtained warrants on Ms. Hayes for breaking/entering, damage to property, and larceny, they were served by Halifax County Sheriff’s Office’s Deputy R. Ball on December 4, 2017.

Officer Grimes obtained the warrant for identity theft after reviewing video footage of the business where the card was used.
