On March 8, 2018 officers with the Tarboro Police Department responded to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in reference to a 15-year-old juvenile patient being treated for a sexual assault that occurred several days prior. Ultimately, the case was forwarded to the Investigations Division who learned that someone the victim had befriended on social media over a year before had assaulted the juvenile. This individual, later identified as Andrew Charles Sedenquist of Comstock Park Michigan, originally misrepresented his age as being 17. He eventually revealed his true age of 32.
In early March of this year Sedenquist made arrangements to meet the juvenile in Tarboro. During that visit the juvenile was sexually assaulted. Following an in-depth investigation, warrants were obtained for Sedenquist’s arrest after which contact was made with law enforcement officials in Comstock Park Michigan. Within several hours Sedenquist was placed under arrest and held at a detention facility in Michigan pending extradition to North Carolina.
On April 4, 2018 Sedenquist was returned to Edgecombe County where he was processed for the following charges: (1) count of Kidnapping; (2) counts of Statutory Rape/Sex Offense Against a 13, 14, or 15-Year-Old; and (1) count of Solicitation of a Child by Computer. He was subsequently secured in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $1,000,000.00 bond.
