Teen arrested for breaking into police chiefs vehicle

On Thursday December 21, 2017 at approximately 3:15pm Roanoke Rapids Police Department’s Investigators J.K. Davis and G.L. Williams arrested Mahkhi Khalil Bynum 17 of Roanoke Rapids for breaking/entering of a motor vehicle, larceny of firearm, possession of stolen firearm, larceny, and possession of stolen goods.  Mr. Bynum was given a $10,000 bond and a January 3, 2018 court date.

The charges stem from an investigation when Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty reported that in the early morning hours of Wednesday December 20, 2017 between 12:00am and 5:15am Roanoke his locked patrol vehicle was broken into at his residence and patrol rifle, bullet proof vest and magazines were taken.

Investigation is ongoing at this time and more arrest are expected.
