COLD CASE – 6 YEARS AGO, DORTCHES STORE ROBBED, MAN SHOT AS ROBBER GETS AWAY

Back on October 11th 2011, 6 years ago a bank robbery happened at the Smith’s Red & White in Dortches – today this case remains open with only a few leads

The First South Bank branch in the Smith’s Red and White Grocery, at 3635 N. Halifax Road in the Dortches community, was robbed at about 9:15 a.m. on October 11th 2011.

The robber hit an employee in the face with the butt of the gun.

The robber then ran about a block away to Griffin’s Food Mart and Exxon station, on N.C. Highway 43 near Interstate 95, where he got into an altercation with Uriel Guillen in the parking lot.

He shot Guillen, 23, of Rocky Mount in the face before jumping into a red Ford Explorer with tinted windows and fleeing north on N.C. 43.  an accomplice might have been in an Explorer.

Guillen was able to drive north on I-95 to the next exit, where he sought help at a Shoney’s restaurant on N.C. Highway 4 in Gold Rock,

The bank robber was described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a camouflage cap, bandanna and jacket, light-colored gloves, navy blue pants and sneakers. His hair was in dreadlocks, but it may have been a wig.
